Can one use regular indoor/outdoor container plant potting mix to start vegetable seeds ( 🥒 and 🍅)in small pots first before planting. Or is other soil/mix more suitable for this? Thank you.

Topsoil actually has the HIGHEST concentration of organic matter. Using the term "dirt" would suggest it has humus (which of course is organic matter).

    What is an earth bed?

  11. Marc T on July 27, 2019 at 2:47 pm

All the "topsoil" I’ve ever seen has just been like bags full of pine bark. It’s ok as mulch but pretty much worthless for everything else. In other places they might sell actual topsoil so I don’t know, but here in the southeast the soil is so bad it isn’t worth selling.

Help!! I accidentally bought the garden soil for my raised boxes on my patio and already planted seeds in it. I mixed it with a bag of perlite and added fertilizer. Would that be ok? Should I add a layer of compost on top?

Why not use potting mix in a raised bed? Don’t most raised beds have some sort of ground cover on the bottom?

can i mix topsoil with potting mix to make soil for containers will that work?

  43. Taylor Queensbury on July 27, 2019 at 3:29 pm

My tomatoes have had end rot and have barely produced in 5 years. I had raised beds constructed because I thought it might be an issue with my soil. I live on a cotton and soy bean farm. My lawn was part of that field a few years ago. The soil drains poorly and I am in Northern Alabama. Our Summers are incredibly humid. I hope this raised bed works.

    Thanks for the video
