In Part 9 of my Outdoor Kitchen Series, I’m showing you how I installed outdoor and landscape lighting in and around my structure. I also installed pathway lighting and lighting for my trees. It looks amazing! Stay tuned as next week I’ll show you how I built the boardwalk pathway.

What about adding movable wind breaks for more comfort on windy days?
Or if you really want to go over the top add openable glass walls all around and suddenly you’d have an outdoor living room with kitchen that would retain heat even when it was cold outside.

  9. Andrew Archer on September 15, 2022 at 6:28 pm

Wow that space is really coming together, are you adding a hot tub or pool?

  10. Donnie Sutton on September 15, 2022 at 6:29 pm

Thai isn’t a slight against April…I think she does a great job, but I find myself wondering how many people watch thinking I wish I could have a place like that without acknowledging that it’s them mostly that has paid for it!

Awesome, Awesome Job April. I Started thinking about Mosquitoes & some kind of repellent around the edges. Maybe not hanging but something. Looks awesome…

Simply beautiful April. Are you lighting the route to the treehouse deck? I’m the sort who’d take my burger and soft drink off to a quiet space and the deck would suit me fine. BTW will Galadriel be making an appearance at the grand opening party?

  13. clyde on September 15, 2022 at 6:31 pm

how do you deal with all the bugs that the lights attract?

  14. tenntonn hammer on September 15, 2022 at 6:33 pm

I’ve been watching this series and I have a couple questions. With all of that lighting, won’t that attract bugs in the summer? Your log boxes, under the floor and walk path, aren’t you concerned with rattlesnakes up under there? I live in Tulsa and even in the out skirts of town we have rattlesnakes and some scorpions. Just curious. It looks fantastic!!!!

  19. Roy Reynolds on September 15, 2022 at 6:40 pm

From experience, I agree to NEVER put a light(s) above a fan. The caviate is unless the flicker is the effect you want. The flicker is hard on the eyes and brain.

  20. David Nation Jr on September 15, 2022 at 6:42 pm

did a fantastic job heck the only thing your missing now is a waterfall lol

  21. Fahad Mirza on September 15, 2022 at 6:44 pm

I think you need couple of Flood lights towards trees/jungle which will not just look good but also for safety purpose.

  22. Tommy Moseley on September 15, 2022 at 6:44 pm

April, amazing work as always. Question about the controllers. Did you have to use three separate transformers for the three zones you described? I’m currently designing our patio and would like to break out 2-3 zones that are also controllable by switch. Wondering if you were able to run multiple switches on the same transformer or if you had individual transformers? Thanks in advance.

looks stunning April! creates a nice chilled vibe. some serious forward planning to get it looking that slick!

  24. bynahelemaal on September 15, 2022 at 6:46 pm

Incredible! The lighting at night makes it look like one of those outdoor dining things you see on like instagram of people on vacay in a high end resort in bali or bora bora and fire breathing dancers etc. In the background performing during a dinner show!

  25. Tree Carcass Mangler on September 15, 2022 at 6:48 pm

Great job as usual! Lots of good ideas in this series.
Thanks for posting, and thumbs up.

  36. Dave Curda on September 15, 2022 at 7:01 pm

    Absolutely beautiful space.

  37. - Gina on September 15, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Beautiful lighting design! Gentle suggestion: for personal safety reasons, I would light the walkway up a bunch more. Concerned about someone accidentally falling off the walkway in the night, twisting their ankle, breaking their arm, etc.

Your lighting looks wonderful and well thought out.

Are you going to revisit your water collection issues in your outdoor kitchen?

I’d love to do something like this but the mosquitoes make it miserable.

You talk about being in space, but we know YOU"RE IN TEXAS!

  49. Karun Leelasiri on September 15, 2022 at 7:18 pm

Nice it looks very relax and warm place. If it was in my country I would be very paranoid of mosquito and reptile haaa. 🙂

  50. Jason Weiner on September 15, 2022 at 7:18 pm

Single most important thing about lights is color temp. Can make your space pop or make it look old and sullen.
