Most people do not decorate as much for the summer holidays as they do for the winter ones. But that does not mean there are no summer holiday decor ideas. There’s just as much fun to be had making a festive place out of your home during the summer as you can have any other time of year. Try some of these decorative ideas for the holidays to spruce up your indoor and outdoor living spaces.
1. Starry Decor. Stars work as decorations for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. Look for cardboard stars in red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. You can use stars to decorate in other colors for occasions like Father’s Day, especially if he’s a Veteran. String the stars onto a piece of rope or a length of ribbon and hang along a wall, the railing on your porch, or a gate. To dress up the evenings and nights, look for string lights in the shape of stars.
2. Bold Flowers. In the heat of summer, many different types of flowers are in bloom. Colorful annuals like marigolds and petunias are great choices. Plant one flower each in small flower pots. Arrange the pots on the floor of your front porch, near the entryway. Arranging the pots of flowers near the entryways on your porch or patio makes for a great looking area. If you have a gate or railing, look for small flower pots that can hang over the rail. To be even more festive for the July 4th holiday, find red, white and blue flowers or change up the plain clay pots, use ones that are painted red, white and blue.
3. Colorful Candles. Candles are fantastic indoors or out in the middle of summer. For a patriotic touch, choose red, white and blue pillar candles. Place each candle in a wide hurricane glass. Fill the glass around the base of the candle with small pebbles or glass marbles. The pebbles or marbles look lovely and keep the candle in place. When decorating with candles outside, using citronella candles will prevent mosquitoes and other flying pests at bay. Another option is to glue pieces of ribbon around the top edge of a small, clean mason jar. Place a tea light or votive candle inside the jar for a pretty simple decoration.
4. Appetizing Tables. Decorative ideas for the holidays also include table decor. Dress up a basic picnic table by slipping a cotton tablecloth in a festive pattern over top of it. If you prefer, use star-shaped placements instead of a full table cloth. Decorate a buffet table with a table runner made out of sewn together bandannas.
Whether you are having a party, or just want to make your home look pretty, give one or more of these holiday decor ideas a try. With a few adjustments, you will find that they can work all summer and all year long.
