Why would the EU want our shitty little country back?
It’s still got lots of Brexiteers and Little Englanders. If I were in the EU – I wouldn’t want this sorry arse of an island back either

  2. Naughty Northerner on November 4, 2022 at 8:58 pm

Spain would veto Scotland joining EU as it sets a presidence for areas within countries breaking away look at what happened with Catatonia

  3. Diesunddas on November 4, 2022 at 9:00 pm

Sine we are on stupid populism already: didn’t one side in the referendum lie, cheat and broke funding rules? To edge out a tiny majority. Every advertiser would be slaughtered for that by your ASA but in politics it’s ok because "democracy". I never understood why with that proven it even counted. Well i do understand. Because of people like you. But still.
Then again…. The UK moaned and complained and got extra deals over extra deals for decades. It would just continue like that on a rejoin. That actually might be a reason for the EU allgedly blocking even the attempt. Good luck.

The euro will be worth more by the time they join so it’s a win win for Scotland

  7. Paul Keogh on November 4, 2022 at 9:08 pm

What a great idea independence from the U.K. to live under the thumb of Germany and France. 🤣

  8. Arthur Kinnell on November 4, 2022 at 9:09 pm

Wee Krankie is just stark staring mad. She wants an independent Scotland, but if Scotland ever did get into the EUSSR they will be subservient to the Brussels commissars!

  11. kevin jackson on November 4, 2022 at 9:11 pm

We don`t want to re-join eu, just like we never voted for slimey, greasy sunak.

  12. Charly Beagrie on November 4, 2022 at 9:11 pm

I said at the time of the referendum, if Britain voted to leave the Rejoiners ever got us back in, the likes of Verhofstadt would say, "Come in, sit down, shut your mouths and do as you are told."

  13. Dani Hedberg on November 4, 2022 at 9:12 pm

You can always shoot you in the other foot.

  14. Badaboombadabing on November 4, 2022 at 9:13 pm

‘Rejoin’? EU will be lucky if there isn’t a mass departure of current EU nations by next Summer.

  15. Roy Simmons on November 4, 2022 at 9:17 pm

The Rejoiners fantasists could emigrate to the EU Shangri-la. What is stopping them?

  16. My bit of History on November 4, 2022 at 9:18 pm

Ohhhh Yeah – Okay Michael… Now put into the equation the push toward Electronic cash… 😉 You’re thinking Old School.

  17. The Reformed Perspective on November 4, 2022 at 9:18 pm

It is complete insanity for any country to want to join the E.U. You have to give up your monitory policy, as well as your foreign policy. You are no longer an independent country.

  18. Anthony Miley on November 4, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Does this mean that if scotland has to join euro then that put paid to any rejoiner thoughts of getting back into EU.

  19. malcolm coles on November 4, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Would not join that shit again eu rubbish

  20. Chris Small on November 4, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Nicola needs to go play with herself and enjoy the fact that she has no chance to get back into the EU.

  21. Taz6688 on November 4, 2022 at 9:22 pm

You are forgetting much of the civil service and government want to rejoin, and have put obstacles in the way at every opportunity, none of them have embraced any new opportunities leaving has offered us.

  22. Iazzaboyce on November 4, 2022 at 9:22 pm

Well, that should put an end to it because the UK Government Leaflet on the referendum promised _"We will not join the euro"_ and I don’t remember a single UK citizen complain about that statement, so presumably no one in the UK wants to give up the pound and now no one in the UK should want the UK to join the EU.

  23. John Tooth on November 4, 2022 at 9:23 pm

    Stuff the EU.

  24. Mike52 on November 4, 2022 at 9:27 pm

A note of caution here. The EU are obviously keen on having every member State using the "euro". If, by chance, Scotland vote of independence, or even declare unilaterally, like Rhodesia did some years back (wouldn’t that be a bombshell?), they could soon be using the euro, even if a grace period is granted.
Then, we consider the position of Northern Ireland. If Sinn Fein ramp up their own "united Ireland" campaign, it could lead to Northern Ireland joining with the south, resulting in the automatic adoption of the euro as their standard currency. That would leave only England and Wales using the pound sterling.
This declaration by the EU, seemingly obstructive and bullish, maybe a disguised offer to Scotland, even with the prospect of the EU having to take on the burden of financially supporting Scotland (as they would not be a net contributor) in the short term, to enable pressure to be brought to bear on England & Wales…..we would be the "odd man out" of Europe and the clamour to rejoin, at least in terms of currency, would grow louder within England & Wales. As always, with the EU, we have to read between many lines and second-guess their motives!
Seeing the recent near-convergence of the GBP (£), the US dollar ($) and the EURO in the markets, it could be that central bank and market maneovring may bring them into parity before long (£1 = $1 = 1 EURO). If that came about, the arguments for retaining the GBP (£) will then be only on principle, which would be ridiculed as being "xenophobic" and commercially unviable – that will be their argument. (i.e: "They are worth the same anyway and think of the advantages"…..) Of course, our means of exchange by that time could be digital (CBDC), making an even stronger case against the retention of the pound sterling!
Only my two-penn’orth of course! I could be wildly off target and maybe seeing things that are not there. But I know these creatures are very good at 3-D chess!

  25. slagglefinkler on November 4, 2022 at 9:30 pm

There is a clamour to rejoin the EU but it will never happen because the EU is glad to be rid of us. The UK will continue to be the sick man of Europe, a situation that will get worse year by year.

  26. Peter Fraser on November 4, 2022 at 9:32 pm

Would Cruella Von Der Leyen expect Blackford to swop his kilt for Lederhosen? You can fit in more pies than you would if you only had a sporran. Sco needs a break from SNP.

  27. martyn Lawrence on November 4, 2022 at 9:32 pm

If the Scots are stupid enough to believe that leaving the UK is right for them then, let them go. Living off EU hand-outs is not the way to go and Scotland sure as hell, cannot afford to support themselves.

  28. David Lee on November 4, 2022 at 9:33 pm

EU is corrupt and will fall to pieces eventually.

  29. Greg Wilson on November 4, 2022 at 9:34 pm

    We were betrayed.
Our government now takes its orders directly from the WEF nartzees instead of going through EU.
    NOTHING HAS CHANGED

  30. Gordon Crichton on November 4, 2022 at 9:35 pm

SNP doesn’t want to join the EU she is using as an excuse to leave the UK.

  32. colinandvalerie1 on November 4, 2022 at 9:39 pm

I wonder why Sturgeon is so obsessed with joining the EU when they don’t want Scotland unless it’s the UK . Perhaps she is jealous about the commissioner’s and the money they are pocketing like The Kinock family Mendelson Blair and many others the only thing going for her all those that make the top job they are all are useless politicians and she certainly qualifies for that.

  33. Dalogan72 on November 4, 2022 at 9:40 pm

Good news, We are happy watching the state of the UK nations, awful. hohoohohohh. The more the UK loses the more EU wins, all good. Your fake laughing does not run much, hahahahaha

  34. Geoff T on November 4, 2022 at 9:41 pm

Maybe a Scot could explain what benefit they as a country would gain from joining the EU. As I see it, they would not be independent, they would be controlled by an unelected bureaucrats in Brussels, they would not have their own currency, they would have to follow what the ECB dictates so being unable to set their own interest rates. All the English and American banks and other financial institutions would move their offices south of the border to England, making thousands of staff in Edinburgh and Glasgow redundant. They would have a closed border with England and no direct access to English markets, as they do now which accounts for 70% of their trade, the only benefit I see is that the other 30% would have free access to the EU markets, they wouldn’t be part of NATO and lastly the English wouldn’t have to support the Scots through the Barnett formula, which I hasten to add would be a blessing!

  35. Broceliande Forest on November 4, 2022 at 9:42 pm

Remain only needed a 1.8% swing to have won the referendum, at exit polls 33% of leave voters said they did so on matters of race, so, racism made brext happen.

  36. Gary Groombridge on November 4, 2022 at 9:42 pm

Don’t mind if the Scots wish to give up their large areas of independence and freedoms from the UK government in their devolved Parliament and to become a lackey and to take all of its orders from the French and Germans. As we all know the EU would regard Scotland as an irrelevant soak ridden province in the North. I just would love to see the English government put a hard border into operation, making it impossible for Scots to move south and to make it as difficult as possible for them to import their goods into england. They would become an economic basket case very rapidly if the English did that.

  40. Robbiewa6451 on November 4, 2022 at 9:48 pm

Any country that joins the EU has to commit to joining the Euro.
And that would include the U.K. as a whole.
We would not have the same terms and conditions as we used to.
We would have to scrap the £.

And this is why we will never rejoin the EU.
