DIY Modern Outdoor Sectional | How To Build Outdoor Furniture

This DIY modern outdoor sofa sectional can be made with basic tools. I used common 2×6 pine and 1×6 spruce to build this outdoor sofa to make it an affordable woodworking project. We used outdoor stain to finish this outdoor sectional to protect it from the weather. Amazon and other affiliate links are used in this description and they help support this channel.

You yanks need to get with the metric system, instead of inches and quarters etc u can use centimetres and even millimetres which makes things so much more accurate and easy to work out.

Just finished the build part of this project. Still need to stain it, but mostly done. It was my first woodworking project and I did it with no help other than this video and your plans. Thanks. I learned a lot from this project.

Sanding also removes the ink from the factory stamps. Black ink, even stained, is very unappealing.

Wood glue on end grain won’t do a thing.

Hola! 🖐 Really good build and excellent video. I bet you will be enjoying that piece of furniture for many, many years. Take care and have a good one! 👊

It wasn’t until after I finished the couch did I realize how expensive the cushions would be!! Be sure to double check before building.

  13. William Edwards on November 12, 2022 at 9:12 pm

I make ones very similar to this in the UK. With timber prices sky high it costs about £200 in timber!

I’m fairly new to woodworking and somewhat surprised you used pine for this. How has this held up? Guess I just thought pine wasn’t a good option for outdoor projects. Proven wrong o suppose

What’s the best wood to use for this project? Wood pressure treated lumber or ……………………….?

  18. Great Grandpa's Woodworking on November 12, 2022 at 9:17 pm

can the stain you used be used on inside wood furniture like bar stools and benches? We like the color.

I love the look of this! I want to put angled backs on the ends as well so I can lean against them with my feet up. Any chance of giving a couple tips with the plans to help me do that and make it join nicely to the main back rest?

This is great! I want to make it 🙂 thanks for the inspiration and instruction. I want to use scrap wood that is 2cm depth by 10cm wide – would that work – anyone know?
    Thanks from the UK 😀

  26. Randy George on November 12, 2022 at 9:35 pm

What would you sell that for just wondering for a starting point

  27. Just Me on November 12, 2022 at 9:35 pm

I’ve got some furniture made out of the exact looking wood like yours in the beginning, raw, unfinished in any way. How can I clean it? Can I use a damp towel? Thank you

  28. Gary Coleman on November 12, 2022 at 9:38 pm

Great job man! What’s it cost to build that

  29. AS Tzfat on November 12, 2022 at 9:39 pm

    Nice!
    Perfect AS IS!
Personally, I would add adjustable back angles PLUS ability to lay back down with fold out legs to lay out flat level with seat to sleep under the stars!

  45. Jaime Riquelme on November 12, 2022 at 9:52 pm

Good on mate, that was great, I was looking for a video with a design with angle seats and I found the perfect one, strong and beautiful, the best part of the video was using Australian timber oil, lol. From Sydney thanks for your time and cheers.

Hi Matt, I’m thinking about building this sectional! My fiancé thinks it’ll be cheaper to just buy a sectional rather than all the lumber and cushions for this.

Could you tell me about how many 2×6 and 1×6 you used? I hope this doesn’t seem like I’m trying to get around buying your plans, I fully intend to!

  49. Andrew John on November 12, 2022 at 10:01 pm
