My brother bought a John Deere 6ft version for my mother’s yard some years ago and I know firsthand how strong winds will blow these things over as I was always the one who ended up having to fix the darned thing. The stakes that the manufacturers of these windmills provide are worthless, especially when the ground is soggy. What I eventually did with hers was drive 4 pieces of rebar into the ground at the 4 corners of the windmill and secured everything with medium gauge steel wire.

I have a concrete base for mine. It hasn’t tipped over in the past 15+ years I’ve had it.
