Man Cave – She Shed – Garden Office

Man Cave – She Shed – Garden Office

Building the Man Cave.

Update – This has now turned into a She Shed as my wife has acquired this and moved in.

This is a video record of my Garden office / Shed project.

Please find an update of what this looks like now. https://youtu.be/XXTP_teQAWE

This is a video of the plans and budget https://youtu.be/gbUlZsM9klg

I am not qualified or do this for a job, I just enjoy making things and this seemed like a good challenge.

I started it in March 2015 and finally completed it 9 months later in December 2015. I build this in my spare time.

I managed to get a great deal of the materials second hand or recycled.

Other items I had to buy new, but shopped around on line for the best price.

The timber base was from A1 Lofts who did a great job of our loft conversion a couple of years ago. I emailed them and they emailed out to all their contractors to see if they had any spare timber. I met with Dan from A1 lofts in Harlow and filled up a van load of timber. http://www.a1pms.co.uk/

The 4 x 2s were from a recycling timber yard in Peckham.

The other items such as the windows and doors and the front maple cladding were second hand from ebay. I had to travel to collect items from all over Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and Buckinghamshire.

Other items I had to buy new, but shopped around on line for the best price.

I did all the work myself apart from the final fix and certification of the electrics. The electrician was Billy Keppel from Keps Electrical.

I have written and recorded and played the instruments to the music on this video. The track is here https://soundcloud.com/angus-mcgregor/funky-instrumental

What was the roof? I saw board, then insulation (good), then more board, but I didn’t see the waterproof layer on top of all that. Shingles? Rubber membrane? Shed roof felt?

So glad to know your in the UK, iv been thinking about this when I get my house. Defo a party place for the Mr or me on weekends with friends haha.

I gather no planning permission needed depending on the height? Also if your not on a lease hold it’s even better?

  30. Reezy Breezy on May 14, 2019 at 10:26 pm

Is it legal to build man cave in ur backyard and not pay any fees to the gov/state?

WHAT? "great , well done i loved it"? " looks amazing, and using recycled wood is nice"?
Gentlemen and ladies, commenting on this video-are you blind? To put instead of the normal base some cement blocks-it is normal? Even under any weather conditions this is nonsense! Especially when weather disasters, isn’t it obvious? The boards laid as floor logs have been processed? The ceiling is not insulated, so we will warm in the winter( it does not matter, even if it’s just the rainy season) just the roof? But then what about the condensate that will inevitably come out, huh? About the Windows side of the fence I better not say anything. Of course, a small plot, and want to live comfortably. But not to the same extent to spit on their own investments to build this here….
And more. Sorry, learn how to use an online translator. Then it will be easier to see HOW to BUILD on the Russian YouTube. Of course, there are donkeys with a hammer in their hands, but most of the masters are very smart!

Im worried about flooding. Its seems a bit low

  45. Dominic Green on May 14, 2019 at 10:35 pm

    That’s a clever ‘she’ trap.
Option 1: find peace in a dirty old shed.
Option 2: build a ‘she shed’.
Genius on all sorts of levels.

  46. Andrew Jackson on May 14, 2019 at 10:36 pm

You dont want to break your plywood sheets at the same joint all the way across.. start with two 8′ pieces across, then cut 1 piece in half and start the next row with a 4′ piece.. staggered joints make a stronger floor

  47. tommy on May 14, 2019 at 10:36 pm

alot of fuck ups with this build… did you even compact that foundation?????

  48. Corn Dog on May 14, 2019 at 10:39 pm

    Is this someone’s house?

  49. 28Deelay on May 14, 2019 at 10:40 pm

What a waste of insulation, you might as we’ll of not put any if you’re not going to do the ceiling.

  50. Kristonia on May 14, 2019 at 10:42 pm

Can we stop calling them she sheds now? *Cringe*
