Interior Design – Easy Spring Decorating Tips For Small Spaces

Brighten up your home for spring with designer Tara Ballantyne‘s attainable ideas. See how she transforms her small space with new pieces that don’t break the bank.

Black and white decor dominated Tara’s home, so she swapped the dark pieces for colorful accessories. She replaced a large monochromatic calendar for a radiant piece of canvas art, and substituted her graphic pillows for ones in varying colors and textures. Tara brought in potted flowers and succulents to create a botanical vignette, and topped the dining table with colorful vintage tableware. Watch to get more of Tara’s spring decorating ideas and see how she took her space from monochromatic to multicolored.

i like how she kept saying "black and white" when it’s more like, black, white, cream, and tan

In such a small house where would you store everything?

Hey Tara… nice tips for getting a makeover of a small room. I think we should try various permutations & combinations for getting that perfect look. Recently, I bought a rug from http://www.deluxerugsncarpets.com.au in my living room and it has really enhanced the decor.

So decorating in small spaces means.. add more clutter and objects on functional worksurfaces (two vases, bowls, plates, glasses, bottled water and candles)? Deeply sorry but this is a miss for me.

  18. Nazia Shoronee on August 14, 2020 at 9:49 pm

It looks more like a display centre than a cozy home, specially that dining table decor… sorry 🙁

Small the size of my 🍑

  20. Ignace Sanches on August 14, 2020 at 9:50 pm

Why do you still calling those huge spaces small? Were all of you raised in a palace?

    餐桌摆那么多东西,除了好看点就没用了,摆着一会都是灰尘

Another bland palate. Nothing daring or original here. It might just as well have been magnolia

This isn’t a small space by any means. Also I think fur throws are more suited for winters since they are cosy and warm.Bare rope seats are perfect for spring. Can you please name the first plant with drooping gorgeous pink flowers 😍 couldn’t make out from the video.

  27. Homa Mousavi on August 14, 2020 at 9:56 pm

Too many accessories and clutter. The fluff and fur reminded me of winter. I don’t really like this design.

  28. Maria Ninja on August 14, 2020 at 9:57 pm

Although the small stuff are aesthetically pleasing, they’re clutter! and useless (except for the plants).

    This is so girly…

"introduce SO MUCH color" ?1  um no. don’t get ahead of yourself. that was a little bit of color pops at best.

  31. D Ishappywithlife on August 14, 2020 at 10:01 pm

The kitchen table had way to much "stuff" on it!! Otherwise pretty

  32. Yash 17 on August 14, 2020 at 10:04 pm

    great

  33. Mio on August 14, 2020 at 10:06 pm

So. Many. Things!! I feel like a few changes were enough. It’s a new just season, not a new era, lol

  34. studiocurtis on August 14, 2020 at 10:07 pm

Thanks for this Tara. I think the overall concept here is creating a calming base of neutrals (white, grays, browns, gold) and sprinkling in pastel accessories to add a sense of life. The sprinkling of color can be done in many ways. In this video Tara creates a pebble-like specking of color across the room here. Another approach, and one that I would be more inclined to take, is to have fewer and larger objects of soft color as the accessories. That approach would further extend the calming approach by giving distinct resting places for the eye. Like cooking, the arrangement of the color pieces can be added to personal taste.

I’m sorry but I like the before

  41. Dani Mark on August 14, 2020 at 10:17 pm

I wouldn’t hire her! So much knick knacks that doesn’t have functions. It’s so much clutter and it doesn’t look like it’s professionally done.

  42. Cecilie M on August 14, 2020 at 10:18 pm

Tara, I loved your before Black and White decorations!! You do have Good taste!! 👍💯👍

  43. Rene' Barry on August 14, 2020 at 10:18 pm

Throw pillow overload, too much fur, clean off that damn table, get rid of that wallpaper on the shelf unit… sigh…

  44. Kristina Balakrishnan on August 14, 2020 at 10:19 pm

Too much of clutter on her dining table and her side board

  45. Candis on August 14, 2020 at 10:20 pm

I didn’t realize this entire video was about swapping out this for that. This is a small space. Where is she keeping all of these pillows, bowls, and vases??? I used to be that girl that had European pillows on the bed with 20 other pillows. Those days are long gone. I am not a lover of a bunch of throw pillows on the sofa either. Where do you plant your butt if the pillows take up all of the real estate?

I enjoy watching your exuberance when decorating. 💖 If living alone, this abundance is workable but not efficient for entertaining. We are 4 (plus 1 cat) in a 2 bedroom condo. Only a fourth of her knick knacks/pillows would suffice. Facing half a dining table and a mountain of small pillows just hides the clean lines of your (tasteful) furnishings. Look forward to seeing your next video. Thanks 😊.

I love that flowers, what name of the first?

  48. Louisse Alvarez on August 14, 2020 at 10:28 pm

Why such a big jar on top of the dining table? Too much accessories/decorations all over. Sore to the eyes.

    Is this In Finland?

  50. Gisa W Slonim on August 14, 2020 at 10:28 pm

Horribly cluttered. Think of removing the dust on all those objects every day. Who needs all that junk, jugs and plates and bits and pieces of this and that which one will never use, and tons of pillows one has to remove every time one wants to sit down. Very un-user unfriendly, unattractive and uninviting.
