If you are going to buy organic seed, you might as well make them Heirloom. http://www.rareseeds.com are organic and heriloom and have a HUGE selection! They even have very rare varieties!!! I love Baker Creek seeds! This was a great episode! I really want to do the back to eden method and have begged my husband for several years to help me get wood chips to decompose and mulch the garden with. I also want to get composted leaves from the city recycling center where they are free for people who live there! This is my heart <3

Thank you for a wonder video. To those who are new at this: Organic gardening isn’t hard, good compost is one of the main factors. We can’t control the weather, but we can control the soil. pests can be pushed off by simple solutions (like a tablespoon of dish soap (not detergent) in a gallon of water will kill aphids.) {please youtube it} many problems can be solved with simple equations. Wood chips provide naturally occurring Bacillus thuringiensis, which kill tomato pin worms. or one can buy B.T. in a bottle and dilute it in accordance with the directions. It is very effective and to my knowledge it is organic. Once again, Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, and giving us a wonderful video. You have a wonderful garden.

Hi Starry tour videos are amazing. I am feeling very confident in my pursuit. I have some questions maybe you can answer. going to be purchasing land soon in the treasure valley. I am reading idaho doesn’t get a lot of rain. would a cistern rainwater system be futile? should be just go with a well?. also in idaho do you have to get building permit to build off the grid. thanks

If people would pay attention to companion planting that cuts out a lot of pests because a lot of pests don’t like onions and if you interspersed onions through a lot of things or marigolds if they’re compatible you don’t really have to worry about pests. I wish I could bottle up some of your enthusiasm.

i live in the city i have no room, i greed that organic is healthier , but why is it so expense , when they don’t expend any money on pesticides. And i believe that commercial organic farms are surrounded by none organic farms. And the wind knows no bothers, so we are getting organic foods that has actually been expose to pesticides

Great video. My question is what are you companion planting with your cabbage? I’ve followed some different recommendations with no success.
BTW, I use my own hybrid of BTE and huglkultur in my deep beds. Have had pepper plants and tomato plants that make peoples eye’s pop. Love Pual and what he’s done.
Have got 3 other people into the BTE method.

I grow vegetables and have a hard time with wood chips as mulch. Vegetables prefer Bacterial Dominated food and wood chips create a Fungal Dominated atmosphere which is ideal for trees and other woody type of landscaping. I tried using hardwood mulch once and had nothing but a Spider Mite Infestation. Last summer, I used Composted Humas & Manure as mulch, the soil its now light and fluffy in that area. I can see there is some benefit to the lasagna method of layering compost over tilling. But I’m still not sold on using wood chips unless its around some woody perennial that thrives in a fungal eco system.

Hey Starry, great video. I’m not going to buy seeds from Burpee. I don’t know if I can trust them. I’m going to buy them from this other youtuber (MIgardener); that way I know they’re organic bc I’ve seen him grow and harvest the seeds. Here’s a letter from the Burpee owner, who is trying to make everyone trust him, but he does say that they buy seed from a Monsanto company. That’s enough for me to say no. It’s ridiculous how things are changing so quickly. In the midwest you could get by with a handshake, now…it’s not like that anymore. And I was born in the 80s so not even that long ago. Crazy times.

organic seed is expensive if you have a very big garden. I use regular ones then save seeds from the crop. It rewards me with many more than the store bought pks.
